This month, the Swerve Foundation surprised six students from Jenks East Elementary and Jenks West Elementary with the gift of a free bike and helmet. As always, Swerve events were full of cheers, high-fives, and unforgettable smiles. A huge thank you to the Swerve Foundation and their sponsor, Relation Insurance Services, for continuing to make moments like these possible for our Trojans while spreading generosity this holiday season!
This week, students across the District participated in the Global Hour of AI, exploring coding and artificial intelligence through a single, creative activity. Whether they were beginners or already familiar with coding, every student had the opportunity to jump in and discover something new. Students created games, animations, and stories while strengthening key JPS Portrait of a Graduate attributes, such as thinking critically, communicating effectively, and showing resilience as they worked through challenges. They also gained awareness of high-demand career paths in computer science and AI, where these skills are more important than ever. We’re thrilled to have so many students participate and see what’s possible through coding and AI!

Changing the course of their future. Daniel Akindehin, Anna Bui, and Holland Thompson are bound for three of the top universities in the country after qualifying as finalists and being selected as QuestBridge National College Match recipients. These Jenks High School seniors received full, four-year scholarships covering tuition, housing, food, and other expenses to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)(Daniel), Columbia University (Anna), and Washington University in St. Louis (Holland). More than 20,000 students applied from across the nation, and only 2,500 received matches to one of their top college choices. Congrats on this remarkable achievement, Trojans. We know this is only the beginning!

Jenks West Intermediate 5th graders spent the day stepping into real-world roles at Junior Achievement of Oklahoma’s BizTown. Students became CEOs, accountants, reporters, health professionals, and city leaders as they navigated budgets, made big decisions, and managed paychecks, all while working together to keep their town running smoothly. We’re thankful to the Jenks Public Schools Foundation for making this incredible hands-on learning experience possible!

A morning of music the Jenks Freshman Academy won’t forget! Tulsa Opera filled the PAC with rich harmonies, performing opera pieces in multiple languages and traditions. Students also heard musical theatre highlights from Ride The Cyclone, Wicked, and The Little Mermaid. Thank you to the Jenks Public Schools Foundation for funding this Growing Through the Arts initiative and making this experience possible for all 9th graders.
Dr. Butterfield got a snapshot of the incredible learning happening at Jenks East Intermediate today! In the Media Center, 6th graders learned what’s ahead for their novel-writing projects for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and how AI will help during the editing stage. She also stopped by Ms. Powers’ science extension class, where students were creating their own borax-crystal icicle ornaments. There is so much excitement and innovation happening at JEI!

Friday night lights get turned up even brighter in Jenks, America this week! The annual Lights On celebration presented by the Jenks Chamber of Commerce has been moved to Friday night from 5-8 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather on Thursday. Just a few blocks north, the Trojans kick off their 6A-1 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. against Edmond Memorial. Everyone MUST purchase a ticket — including season ticket holders, students, and employees. Tickets are $7 online at https://gofan.co/event/5409375?schoolId=OK24458 or $10 cash at the gate. (clear bag policy in effect). Main Street (downtown blocks) and some streets near Allan Trimble Stadium will be closed, so give yourself plenty of time for driving and parking. Please exercise caution and patience! Everyone be safe and courteous to make this a fun, memorable night for our entire community!
