"Stay Gold, Ponyboy" Mrs Clark & Ms Smith's 8th grade Language Arts classes had an unforgettable time diving into The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton! At the conclusion of their unit, they brought the 1960s to life with a full day of themed fun. 🍰🥤 Here’s what went down: - We indulged in some of the Curtis boys' favorite snacks - Students created amazing Body Biographies of the iconic characters, bringing them to life in a whole new way ✍️ - They learned how to play jacks, a game straight from the 1960s, and had a blast competing! 🏆 - We tested their knowledge with a trivia game all about the 1960s! 🤓 It was a perfect mix of fun, learning, and a bit of nostalgia. So proud of how our students embraced the book and the era! 📚✨ #OutsidersDay #LibraryFun #LanguageArts #1960sVibes #TheOutsiders

Hello JMS Community! Team 7.6 and Team 7.4 are excited to announce a special Earth Day project here at JMS! This year, our students will be creating a pollinator garden to support bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators. This hands-on project will help our students learn about the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem while making a lasting impact on our school environment! 🌱 To make this project a reality, we are selling Earth Day t-shirts as a fundraiser. All proceeds will go toward purchasing plants, soil, and other materials needed for the garden. By purchasing a shirt, you’re not only supporting this meaningful initiative but also helping us create a greener future for our students and local wildlife! 👕 T-Shirt Details: JMS Earth Day T-Shirt (several color options are available) https://store.918designcompany.com/JenksMiddleSchoolEarthDay/shop/home If you would like to donate directly to our project, you're welcome to visit our Amazon Wishlist https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/25525EB3RXCK3?ref_=wl_share

🪴 Remember team 7-4's Science class experiment with radish seeds? We're here to give you an update! After four weeks of observing radish plants under different light filters (green, blue, no light, red, and white), students measured their average height, number of leaves, and color to assess their growth and health. The results showed that radish plants under white light were the healthiest, reaching an average height of 15 cm and having larger leaves. Plants under red and blue lights grew but were less healthy, with average heights of 7.5 cm and 2 cm, respectively, and small leaves. The plants in the green and no-light conditions died after one week. So basically, white light wins! 💡 Want to know why? These results align with what we know about plant growth and light absorption. Since plants need light for photosynthesis, the ones without any light did not survive. Similarly, plants reflect green light rather than absorbing it, which explains why the plants under the green filter also died. Previous lessons taught us that plants primarily absorb red and blue light for photosynthesis. This explains why plants under red and blue lights grew to some extent but were not as healthy. The white light plants thrived the most because white light contains all colors of the spectrum, allowing the plants to absorb both red and blue wavelengths effectively. Phew! That was a lot. Thanks for hanging with us as we Science! 🧑‍🔬

At the end of their non-fiction unit study of the assassination of President Kennedy, Mrs. Gunsaulis’s seventh grade Language Arts classes did group multimodal presentations over the conspiracy theories around his assassination. They had to provide verifiable facts to disprove the theories’ claims. Students also practiced quoting, summarizing, and parenthetically citing sources through this project. Great job, researchers!

Introducing the 2024-25 Site Teachers of the Year! These educators were selected by their peers at each JPS site because of the way they connect with students, mentor colleagues, innovate in their classrooms, and consistently demonstrate the mission, vision, and values of Jenks Public Schools. These ten individuals are relentless advocates for students and public education. Our community is so fortunate to have teachers like these (and many others), who inspire our next generation of leaders with their genuine care and passion for what they do. Please join us in congratulating them!

💝Kindness at JMS! 💝 The following messages come straight from the hearts of one JMS PARENT, sharing kind words and appreciation for a special staff member.💝 Kindness goes a long way, and we love seeing our families lift up those who make a difference every day! "Ms. Treadwell has done a phenomenal job with my son in his math class. He feels confident in his learning because of how well she teaches the topics. He has said that she is structured and has high expectations and wants her students to succeed and I see that as a parent! Ms. Suggs did a great job with helping my son navigate his first semester in middle school. She prepared him and helped him get organized and keep track of his grades. She also has a great sense of humor and knows how to connect to her students!" -Destinee Frazier
