💘Mrs. Clark & Ms. Smith's Eighth grade Language Arts classes took a trip to the library for a Speed Dating with Books event today! Students got to "meet" new books in quick rounds, choosing their next literary "match" in just a few minutes. And to sweeten the deal, everyone received a fun ring pop to celebrate their bookish connections.💘

Students in Mrs. Swift's 7-4 science class began an experiment this week to study how different light colors affect plant growth. After researching how plant cells absorb light through chlorophyll, they planted four radish seeds per pot and placed them in light boxes with green, blue, red, white, or no light. Just one week in, the seeds have started to germinate, and students recorded their first set of data on Thursday. They will continue watering the plants daily and collecting data weekly over the next few weeks to a month. We can't wait to share their findings when the experiment is complete!

Congratulations are due to two amazing JMS educators! Melanie Woolridge, 8th grade science teacher, and Joe Erwin, permanent sub, were honored as the certified and classified staff members of the month. 🙌

Ms Reiter's 7th grade ELA classes did their biography collage presentations last week. Students interviewed an adult in their life and then spent 3 days creating a collage to represent the person. They then did a gallery walk to show off all their hard work! Great job!

See you on Tuesday, Trojans!

It's important to know your WHY! Students in Mrs Burkhalter's Spanish and French language courses reflected on their WHY for learning a new language.

Do you see what I see? 👀 🔬
Things 7th graders are observing with their microscopes in Science this week:
The blue specimen is a Lilac Leaf cross section. The purple specimen is a Zebrina Leaf. Students made their own slides with the Zebrina leaf using a class plant!

Need plans for Saturday night? Come to the JMS Bingo night to support our Global scholars' trip to Ireland🇮🇪

It's not Valentine's Day yet, but it's never too early for ♥️❤️♥️! Ms Baker, science teacher, and Ms Cook, vocal music teacher, just happened to be twinning! 😍

How are your New Year's resolutions going?
Team 7.6 students determined their goals and posted them in the hall for everyone to see! 💪🏻🎉

Students in Mrs. Swift's 7th-grade science class kicked off the 2025 year with a Microscope Lab. Students were introduced to microscopes in preparation for another lab later this week. They selected three slides from a variety of specimens and observed them at 4x, 10x, and 40x magnification, carefully recording their observations. This hands-on experience has equipped the class with the skills they need to prepare their own slides and delve deeper into the microscopic world later this week and in the future.🔬

Let's Go!

Students finished the semester in Mrs. Gunsaulis's 7th grade Language Arts class by participating in the Oklahoma Department of Libraries' "My Favorite Book Writing Contest," in which they wrote letters to the authors of their favorite books. Students are competing with other Oklahoma 7th and 8th grade students for cash prizes of $500 as well as $1,000 for their school library. Contests let students see their writing published authentically. Wishing them all good luck!

This semester, JMS partnered with Humble Warrior Collective to pilot a six-week yoga and mindfulness program with nine 8th graders and ten 7th graders. These brave students dove right in, learning basic yoga poses and flows, practicing guided meditations, implementing positive affirmations in their daily routine, and building themselves a small community of safety and acceptance. They have paved the way for our school to continue its partnership with HWC, as a new eight-week program will begin in January. Mindfulness and yoga have been proven to positively impact and increase hope, resiliency, self-regulation, and empowerment thereby creating the highest possible opportunity for academic and life-long success. Namaste, Trojans.
