Today, TEDxJenks returned to the PAC as Jenks High School students led another incredible showcase of thought-provoking conversations. With 19 student speakers taking the stage, the only student-led TEDx event in the region once again highlighted the talent, leadership, and voices of our Trojans. DUB Week, short for Donate yoUr Best, is JHS Student Council’s annual philanthropy week dedicated to making a difference in our community. This year, students are raising money for Heroes Hope, whose mission is to eliminate veteran homelessness through immediate housing support and essential resources for veterans in need.

Jenks Middle School 8th graders got a taste of New Orleans right here in Tulsa today! 🎷🎺🥁 The legendary New Orleans-inspired Tulsa locals, King Cabbage Brass Band, brought the energy and gave our Trojans an unforgettable live music experience. A big thank you to the Jenks Public Schools Foundation for supporting this Growing Through the Arts opportunity for our students!

During a hands-on lab, Jenks High School Advanced Biology students partnered with peers from another biology class to dissect frogs. 🐸 The inclusive assignment highlights collaboration, connection, and meaningful learning experiences. We love to see Trojans learning from Trojans!
Earlier this week, AVID sophomores from Jenks High School toured The University of Oklahoma, accompanied by Dr. Fox, Mrs. Ritze, Mr. McCown, Mrs. Finch, and Mr. Ruggiano. The tour guide was a Jenks grad and former AVID student who was able to speak to the current students on how the AVID program prepared her for college. Year after year, AVID continues to create opportunities and experiences our students can't get anywhere else!

Third grade students at West Elementary performed "Earth Dance" and took us on a joyful journey around the world through song, movement, and music. They performed in multiple languages, played instruments, and danced their hearts out—all in honor of our beautiful planet and the diverse cultures that make it so special.
Bravo to these Trojans for their hard work, creativity, and spirit!

REMINDER: Tomorrow-Friday, April 17-is a Distance Learning Day for students and a Collaboration Day for staff.
All students will stay home tomorrow to participate in distance learning. There is no in-person instruction tomorrow. Staff members will use this time for collaboration, professional development, and strategizing to support students.

The Spring Board Showcase featured stops at five sites as members of the Board of Education, JPS administrators, and staff got a first-hand look at some of the learning, teaching techniques, and student experiences taking place inside and outside the classroom. Highlights included: Pre-K students interacting with senior living residents at Northwest Elementary, STUCO students and freshman biology students recapping trips to Washington D.C. and Costa Rica, respectively, East Intermediate students building foundational skills in math, and different grade levels of Southeast Elementary students collaborating in music class. Portrait of a Graduate attributes were on display at every stop!

Tulsa County Master Gardeners visited Northwest Elementary 2nd graders to share their knowledge on butterflies, moths, and the important role pollinators play in helping our gardens grow and ecosystems flourish. During Dr. Butterfield's site visit at Northwest Elementary, we visited Mrs. Smith’s classroom, where evidence-based instructional strategies guided small group learning, helping students build strong foundational skills and grow with confidence. Across the district, more than 90 teachers have been trained in Orton-Gillingham strategies aligned to the Science of Reading, strengthening how we support literacy development. Then we stopped by Ms. Waldrop’s classroom, where morning meetings created an engaging start to the day, giving students opportunities to practice phonics, counting, and leadership skills through music, movement, singing, and meaningful connection. These classroom moments highlight the intentional instruction and student growth happening across the district every day! Thanks for the great visit, NWE!

Today, the Trojan RISE teacher at Jenks West Elementary was honored with the title of 2025-26 JPS District Teacher of the Year via a surprise presentation from Dr. Butterfield.
In her 10th year at JPS, Mrs. Worley was instrumental in creating the RISE (Respect, Individual Growth, Skill Development, and Empowerment) program which is now part of the behavior intervention strategy at all JPS elementary sites. Working with Pre-K, kindergarten, and first grade students, Mrs. Worley uses play and research-based techniques to develop skills, enhance communication, and prepare students to advocate for themselves. Through her kindness, patience, and compassion, students are gaining confidence while learning to navigate the school day and achieve remarkable goals.
“I’m so honored and excited to represent the District I love, as well as our students and our program. I feel so much warmth and love and support in this place. To be able to innovate, share my ideas, and feel this level of validation is so special. I’m so grateful and humbled to receive this award because I could not do any of this without the wonderful people I work with every day.”
