We know mornings can be tough, and sometimes it feels easier to let kids stay home when they aren’t feeling 100%. Unless your student is truly sick, coming to school every day is one of the best ways to help them succeed.
When students attend school regularly, they build strong routines, stay connected with their peers, and grow confidence in their learning. We want your child to feel included and on track. Healthy attendance plays a huge role in building those skills.
We want every student to have the best chance to learn and grow each day. Regular attendance is so important AND we also know there are times when staying home is the right choice.
Tips for when staying home is the best choice:
Rest:
Make sure your student gets the appropriate rest so they can join us back at school. Being healthy is important and necessary for students to learn!
Stay connected: Many teachers post updates on Canvas regularly! Check in with teachers to get the best information on how you can support when your child has to miss school.
Prepare to Return: Encourage your child to ask their teacher about missed work when they return. Plan ahead and ask your student if they know what they would do if they were to miss a day!
Every day in school helps your child build skills, friendships, and confidence. Thank you for working with us to make sure your student is here whenever possible! We miss them when they are gone!
Set goals together
Track attendance on a calendar and celebrate milestones. Small rewards like extra playtime or a later weekend bedtime can keep kids motivated.
Prioritize sleep.
Children need 10–12 hours a night, and teens need 8–10. A well-rested child is more alert and ready to learn.
Prep the night before.
Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and make sure backpacks are ready to avoid stressful mornings. Have a backup plan for rides to school.
Plan vacations wisely. Try to schedule family trips during school breaks to avoid learning gaps. Even one missed week can set a child behind.
Stay on top of health.
Keep up with regular doctor and dental checkups. Whenever possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours.
Setting routines is a great way to help your student and avoid those morning woes.
