NWE STEM Lab
STEM Lab
The STEM Lab is a state-of-the-art classroom for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. In our STEM Lab, students learn to apply technology while they develop critical skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, project management and communications. The STEM Lab at Jenks Northwest Elementary School is our district’s first elementary level STEM Lab. It is created with the most current technology and curriculum available.
STEM Lab students work in teams to develop projects in the areas of scientific data and analysis, circuitry, computer graphics, digital communications, mechanics and structures, alternative and renewable energy, software engineering, and robotics and control technology. In the STEM Lab, students have the opportunity to explore their own project ideas under the supervision of a special kind of teacher called a “Facilitator”, which at our site is Mrs. Lori Teal. Instead of taking exams, students create e-portfolios to document their learning. It’s a challenging learning experience, but because students can explore topics of personal interest, they typically rise to the challenge.
The STEM Lab at Jenks Northwest Elementary School was designed and installed by a company called Creative Learning Systems. Creative Learning Systems has been developing technology-based classrooms since 1987.
