About the Jenks Trojans Aquatic Center
The Jenks Trojans Aquatic Center was completed in April, 2011, as the result of a District-wide referendum. A brand-new Competition Pool was constructed, and renovations were made to the existing Jenks High School pool.
The JTAC construction and renovations, designed by KSQ Architects, in concert with SHWGroup and Aquatic Excellence, and with Flintco as prime contractor, feature the Olympic-sized Competition Pool. The Competition Pool was designed to meet national and international specifications, and measures 50 meters by 25 yards, with a minimum depth of 7 feet. There are 8 50m ("long course") lanes and up to 19 25 yard ("short course") lanes available. Moveable bulkheads allow for various configurations to be achieved. Many cutting-edge technologies were involved in the project, which have led to the pool being considered one of the best in the entire US. Water clarity and sanitation are maintained with a coupled vacuum-sand filtration unit, automatic chemical controls, and an Ultraviolet sanitation system. The combination of chemical controls and UV sanitation assures more efficient use of chlorine sanitizer. While the pool does use chlorine as the main sanitizer, special features, first installed here, mean that users and visitors will not experience the expected "chlorine smell" and "pool flu" that is found at other indoor facilities. The Paddock Evacuator works with deck-level gutters to remove the chlorine-saturated layer of air over the pool. The result is that swimmers and visitors will not be exposed to caustic and harmful odors, and, most importantly, swimmers will experience the freshest and healthiest air of any pool in the US. Visitors and swimmers alike have commented on the complete lack of "chlorine smell."
The Competition Pool has played host the the Speedo Champions Series Sectional Championships, and will host the 2013 Oklahoma State High School Swimming Championships, the OK USA Swimming Age-Group Championship, and Sectionals.
The Instructional Pool, formerly the High School Pool, and right down the hall from the Competition Pool, features renovated air handling units and refurbished locker rooms. Aquatic programming such as swimming lessons, aquatic exercise classes, lifeguard training, pool parties and other programs will be headquartered in this pool. The pool has 6 swimming lanes, and depths ranging from 3.5 feet to 12 feet. ADA hydraulic lifts are available for ease of entry.
