PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW
Federal law allows parents to ask about the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their children. Specifically, parents may ask:
- Whether the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has licensed or qualified the teacher for the grades and subjects that he/she teaches
- Whether the OSDE has decided the teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations due to special circumstances
- The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has advanced degrees, and the subject of the degrees
- The qualifications of the teacher’s aides or similar paraprofessionals who provide services to your child.
Parents will be notified if their child has been taught for four or more weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable certification.
Parents may also request information regarding student participation in any mandated assessments which include policy, procedure, or the right to opt out, where applicable.
Parents of English learners may request to have their child removed from the English Learner Program or choose another program or method of instruction, if available.
Patrons also have the right to review the district and site Title I Parent and Family Engagement Plan and to notify the Inspector General’s hotline at 1-800-MISUSED if they observe or suspect improper use of federal funds by Jenks Public Schools.
Please contact your child’s school principal with questions or concerns.
