Non-School Golf Tournaments
Resources and Information for Parents and Athletes
South central section JR PGA events: good for all levels although for top varsity might not be the best competitive environment all the time. They have created two levels though to create a spot for top level Jr golfers in the region through the players tour. These are just through the summer months.
US kids events: great for developing players not on varsity.
OJGT events: ideal for varsity or those working towards varsity level. They have a few spring events. Two before our varsity season starts that would be best if varsity guys could play at least one of them. Bailey Ranch March 6th & 7th or Muskogee 15th & 16th.
OJGT also have entry open for their late summer and fall events. Next year we will again use a few of these events as varsity qualifying. Most likely 3 Muskogee, Indian Springs, and Bailey Ranch. It would be ideal for varsity competing players to play 5 of these events total.
Good news about entry being open now is it could allow families to budget and spread out the cost instead of signing up for multiple come August. Now many of these do tend to fill up so please be on the lookout for that.
- These are best events to get college exposure. https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/1758918
OGA events: many of these are open to all armatures not just JR golfers. Like the State Am, State Stroke play, and Oklahoma Open. Also the Jr Boys Championship. These would be for top level varsity as a chance to compete against some of the local college players.
AJGA: the highest level events at the national level. They have many in the region that can be another opportunity for top varsity players to show their ability to large audience against different competition.
For us to reach and achieve the level of success we are shooting for it will take more than just our school tournaments and practice. Ideal situation would be for everyone to get about 20 rounds of competition each calendar year not counting school golf. I encourage you to look at the options and personal goals to create a compressive schedule that also fits your family’s financial situation.
