JENKS PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED THROUGH APRIL 5
In an effort to prevent the further spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the State Board of Education has voted to authorize the closure of ALL Oklahoma schools from Tuesday, March 17 through Sunday, April 5.
Jenks Public Schools will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Sunday, April 5. During this time period, all JPS school sites and facilities will be closed. All activities, athletic events (games and practices), and club meetings are canceled. All childcare programs are canceled effective immediately, and the Early Childhood Center will be closed.
This closure is a complete operational shutdown and therefore, no instruction will take place during this time period. There will be no virtual instruction or distance learning programs in any public school in Oklahoma during this shutdown. We understand this differs from earlier communication which stated virtual learning as a possibility in the days and weeks following Spring Break.
We understand the implications of closing school and the impact it will have on our families. This action is being taken in accordance with CDC guidance and the recommendations of state health officials to help prevent the spread of coronavirus in our community.
At this time, no decisions have been made for school closures beyond April 5. You will be informed as soon as more details are available or as soon as further decisions are finalized.
This is an unprecedented situation, and one for which we do not have all the answers. We acknowledge the anxiety this may cause, and we are working through all of implications and possible contingencies for our students and staff members. Many decisions are not in our power to make and must be made in partnership with state and federal agencies. Thank you for your understanding and for your patience.
Please stay safe, wash your hands frequently, and practice social distancing whenever possible.
