About Us
Jenks Southeast Elementary
As one of four elementary schools within the district, Southeast aligns its vision statement to reflect the core beliefs of JPS when it states: The Jenks Southeast community is dedicated to the goal of preparing students for the future by developing a safe and secure learning environment which promotes positive self-esteem, respect for others, and recognition of the individual educational needs necessary to enable students to reach their fullest potential. Our motto, Together We Can, accurately expresses the spirit of the entire school.
Our school…
Welcome to Jenks Southeast Elementary! We are excited to have you as a part of our community. We are located at the corner of 101st and Yale, Southeast serves the Jenks community that resides south of 101st and east of the Arkansas River within the schools assigned boundaries. Jenks Southeast has a partial immersion program. Beginning in kindergarten, students have the opportunity to participate in the Chinese Immersion Program. The immersion program began in 2010 with one section in kindergarten and one section in first grade. Now the school offers two classes per grade level, Kindergarten through 4th grade. Presently, 220 students, representing 24% of the Southeast population, participate in the program.
Southeast Values…
The Southeast Elementary staff’s mission is to support, nurture, educate and grow the whole child while exemplifying the high standards of our district and patrons. In the classroom, teachers are committed to meeting the needs of every student by providing a variety of educational experiences. Teachers use data to drive instruction ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential.
Southeast has won several awards and honors: National Blue Ribbon School 2014. Oklahoma Healthy and Fit Schools Award (4 years), and perfect API scores for 4 consecutive years. We were also the site chosen one year for the Naturalization Ceremony in which 30 people received citizenship.
The Southeast motto “Together we can” shines for all to see.
Southeast Community…
Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Compassion, Honesty, Teamwork, Self-discipline, and Perseverance are at the heart of what we do, teachers, staff, and students. These character traits are what we hope to instill in each child. Trojan of the Week is one way we recognize students that exhibit the month's spotlighted character trait. These students are nominated by JSE staff.
Jenks Southeast cares about our community. Service Projects are one way that we give back. Each grade level participates in a service project. Some of the organizations we have supported are W.A.G.S. a service dog organization, H.U.G.S. a project working with Family and Children’s Services, St. Francis Children’s Hospital, Jenks Food Bank, adopting families in need during the holidays, Christmas collection for Jenks families in need, Socks and Shoes for the students at Gilcrease Elementary and many more.
Jenks Southeast partners with Comfort Canines. Comfort Canines provide students the comfort and support that only a therapy dog can offer. Southeast is fortunate enough to have our very own therapy dog named Sam. Sam works with our school counselor Amy Berkinshaw in meeting the needs of all of our students.
“Jenks Community Education uses the school's resources to address the community's needs. Learning continues throughout life. Community Education creates opportunities for community members of all ages to learn new skills to improve their lives, to pursue new interests and to have fun. Community Education also provides our children with safe and nurturing places to go before and after school.” See the JPS website for more details.
Southeast Parent Involvement….
Southeast Elementary welcomes family and community partnerships. We believe that parents are not just spectators in their child’s education and social development but they are active participants and contributors. Southeast provides parents with the opportunities to support the classroom and school through a variety of ways. Our Parents and Teachers Association or PTA is vital part of our school community. Our PTA “fills the gap” in so many ways by supporting SE through its financial contributions, volunteer hours, and activities which support teaching and learning.
SE PTA has a Facebook (FB) page to keep you in the loop about what is going on at school. To find the Southeast page just search for Jenks Southeast Elementary in Facebook. JPS also has a district FB page that we invite you to join. JPS Facebook Page .
