Welcome Back Letter From Our Principals
JWE Families,
Welcome to Jenks West Elementary, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Primary Years Programme. We are excited about working with you and your child this year!
Our Campus…Our campus is comprised of four classroom buildings. Building B houses our developmental three-year-old class and pre-kindergarten (PK) classes. After PK, students are assigned to Building A or D and remain in the same building for kindergarten, first and second grades. (This year, some Building D students will remain in Building D for third grade.) Building F is located across the street from the primary campus and houses third and fourth grades. Grace Living Center (GLC) is our intergenerational multi-age pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program located at 711 N. 5th Street in Jenks.
Our Classrooms...Teachers invest time in building relationships and community among students by emphasizing the Learner Profile. In preparation for the beginning of school, you may notice blank walls and bulletin board space. Teachers are purposeful about leaving areas for students to display their questions, thinking, work, and understanding as the teaching units progress.
Our Communication…Your child’s teacher will be communicating using email, Canvas and Seesaw. Principals share monthly communication through email and Canvas and periodically use our phone messaging system. You can access school-wide information/flyers through Peachjar. Please follow our Jenks West Elementary Facebook Page and the district JPS Facebook Page for information and events.
Our Parent Involvement…We value our family and community partnerships! We extend many opportunities to be involved in our school. We have an active Parent Teacher Action Group (PTAG) who initiate projects, fundraisers, and support for volunteer needs in our school. Opportunities for volunteering and special events will be shared out on our Jenks West Elementary Facebook Page and in our Monthly Principal Newsletters. Classroom teachers welcome volunteers to be involved in classrooms on a daily, weekly, and/or as-needed basis. Appointments to volunteer can be made through your child’s teacher.
Our Teaching and Learning...Our staff and students seek opportunities to take action in our school, community, and world. We are committed to developing the whole child and strive for lifelong learning. We value inquiry and concept-based learning using the Jenks Public Schools Curricula Standards organized within the IB’s transdisciplinary themes. Each year, your child will experience the same themes (outlined below) emphasizing different concepts and growing levels of sophistication.
Looking forward to a great year!
