Nursing Office: Handwashing
Hand washing is the cornerstone of infection control! It has been recognized as the MOST important measure in helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. It is generally thought that coughing and sneezing transmit most cold/flu germs, but the majority of transmission comes from hand-to-hand contact and transfer of germs from other surfaces.
Wash hands at least during the following times:
*after blowing your nose (or wiping someone else’s!)
*after using the restroom
*before/after eating
*after contact with trash
*after cleaning or decontaminating surfaces
*after contact with any and all body fluids
