West Elementary PE Parent Information

Welcome to a new school year! Our Physical Education program consists of developmentally appropriate activities that create maximum opportunities for development of skills, knowledge, health-related fitness, and provides stuents the confidence to enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle. Your child’s learning environment is safe and non-threatening while providing opportunities for success.

Physical Education Classes meet on a three day rotation, alternating with Art and Music. Your child’s classroom teacher will be informing you of their specific rotation schedule. Classes meet for 40 minutes. We spend about 5-10 minutes with warm ups and opening procedures/instructions then try to have 20-25 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per class period before closing procedures and exit from Bldg. E.

Specific procedures for each class will be practiced the first few weeks.  Your child will be graded on participation, skill, and expected behaviors (see below).  To participate, students must be dressed appropriately in athletic shoes and comfortable clothes.  No open toes/heels, high heels, clogs (Crocs), cleats, or leather soles.  Shorts must be worn under dresses.  If you wish for your child to sit out due to illness/injury, please send a note from yourself or the child’s doctor or email me at suzanne.cyrus@jenksps.org.
