Physical Education is a vitally important part of a child’s complete education. A well planned physical education class allows for development of socialization skills, improved self-concept, and an appreciation for physical activity.
Of great importance is the atmosphere where learning is taking place. Physical education provides the opportunity for children to express themselves in a setting different from the regular classroom. What takes place in P.E. is movement, with large doses of social interaction. At Jenks East we strive to provide an environment where students will find success while working on developmental skills from which to build on as they mature.
Movement exploration, rhythms, manipulatives, and cooperative group play make up the core of the physical education curriculum for the 1st and 2nd grades. We move our bodies in many different ways, shapes and forms. Exercise and play enable children to have the strength and energy to do their daily tasks, as well as, help the brain activate connections that carryover into learning in the regular classroom. It is my hope that with participation in Physical Education and encouragement from home, the students will make physical activity a part of their lifestyle.
