Looking around, bookcases are full of plastic tubs containing traditional and non-traditional manipulatives and project supplies.  Charts (large post-it posters) completed by each math group during their “math huddle” or debriefing time are in full view.  Student spiral notebooks are stored in the cubbies.  One area displays the student’s “Brain Explosions” (handwritten notes describing their mathematical thoughts that connect either math to self, math to world, or math to math for all to see.)  Recently, after Rachel had explained two math to math connections one after another, Zachary asked her, “Is your brain hurting from all of that thinking?”  “Of course,” she answered with excitement, “I think it does!”
