This is my 6th year as the counselor at Jenks West Intermediate and I love it! I received my Bachelors in Psychology and Criminal Justice in 1994 and completed my Masters of Science from Northeastern State University in 1997. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I enjoyed working with the Severely Mentally Ill population for 18 years specializing in Crisis Intervention, homelessness, and home based family therapy. When I had the opportunity to change careers to focus more on my family, becoming a counselor at West Intermediate was a natural transition. Being a graduate from Jenks, I knew there wasn’t a better place for my TrojanSpirit!
I have 2 sons, 2 nephews, and a niece who attend West Elementary and believe they are receiving the best education by the most dedicated and determined people who teach based on students individual needs. I love working at West Intermediate and am proud to work with a staff who continue to exceed and truly live up to our Attitudes of Excellence motto.
I look forward to this year and watching our students become more mature as they work their way toward Middle School. I want nothing more to ensure students arrive to school in an environment that feels safe and encourages them to take risks in a learning environment where differences and ideas are appreciated. This year WI has added another Counselor to our team, Kristen Young. This addition will allow even more individual and small group support this year. I co-coordinate the Health and Wellness Team, and am a member of the Leadership team at JWI.
This year I am conducting groups on Family Issues and Divorce, Grief, and Anger/ Coping skills. I work with individuals, class teams, and small groups; Consult with and support teachers, collaborate with West Elementary and other district counselors; Principals; Consult with parents, and assist with monthly focus of school climate and our Attitudes of Excellence. Our counseling team also coordinates Project Westly and our Nutrition Backpack Club. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
