My name is Lynette Miller. I am a special education teacher at Jenks West Intermediate. This is my 15th year of teaching at JPS. Before coming to Jenks, I taught for nine years in Tulsa Public Schools. My husband and I have lived in Jenks for 31 years. We have 2 children who are "Jenks Lifers" and have graduated from JPS.
I love working with children with special needs, they are an inspiration to me everyday. In 2010 and was privileged to be selected as Jenks District Teacher of the Year. I was also selected as one of the 12 finalists for Oklahoma Teacher of the year in 2011.
I love working with children of all disabilites, especailly those on the spectrum. Parenting a child on the spectrum can be challenging. Therefore, at the request of some of my parents, I began teaching classes in the evening through Jenks Community Education for parents with children on the spectrum. The classes help parents understand their child better and his/her needs. I also offer strategies for behavior, academics, and working with school personnel in a positive and producitve manner, as well as, understanding the IEP.
