Welcome Page

Welcome to my page.  My name is Jennifer Wilkie and I am the 4th grade reading/language arts lab teacher at Jenks West building A.  I graduated with honors from Oral Roberts University in 1997 with a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education.  I previously taught Special Education for 11 years in TPS. I also taught ELL for two years.  This is my third year teaching at Jenks West and I absolutely love it!  The Jenks way is definitely better!

I have been married to my husband Braden (a Jenks graduate) for 14 years.  We have been blessed with three wonderful children.  Logan (11), Lawson (5), and our final edition Linleigh (18 months).  I enjoy reading, gardening, and cooking.  However, being a mother of 3 takes up most of my time.

I will be helping your child fulfill their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals in reading/language arts this year.  I believe that your child can be a great success in everything they do in life.  That includes reading.  Although many will be below grade level, my goal is to give your child the skills they need to be a successful 5th grade reader.  I also hope to impart my love for reading.  There is such joy and satisfaction in seeing a child be able to pick up a book with confidence.  I look forward to working with  you and your child this year as a team. I will expect your child to be reading every night at home for at least 20 minutes.   There is no substitute for reading at home!  Please make sure that your child has chosen something on his/her "just right reading level" (no more than 5 errors on a page).  There is also great educational value in you reading to them.  Even at this age! So... read, read, read!  Please feel free to e-mail or call me if you have any concerns or questions.  I am always available.

Thank you for entrusting me with your most precious possession.  I consider it an honor and a privilege to work with your child.  I believe this will be a great 4th grade year!
