Teaching and Learning:

Welcome to pre-kindergarten and/or kindergarten at West Elementary (WE)! Our curriculum is developmentally appropriate, emphasizing indoor and outdoor play while focusing on literacy through reading and writing, imaginative play, dramatization, puppetry, and beginning phonics skills.  Our students build foundational skills with mathematical concepts, discover the natural world in science and social studies, participate in action-based learning, and practice social skills throughout the day.  As an IB Primary Years Programme School, we offer all students opportunities to make global connections while experiencing and learning about big ideas (communities, systems, perspective, etc.) in the context of the required curriculum standards.

Classrooms:

  • full-day pre-kindergarten (PK) located in Building B

  • PK/K Multi-age Program at Grace LIving Center (GLC) Nursing Home in Jenks. GLC is an intergenerational multi-age PK/KDG program in which students participate for two years with daily interactions with the “grandmas and grandpas”. Based on interest, students are selected by lottery to participate.  Additional information about GLC is available at the enrollment center and the West Elementary Website.  If interested, please indicate at the time of enrollment.

  • full day kindergarten (K) located in both Buildings A and D
