Welcome Back Letter From Our Principals

 

                                                                                                                                     

West Elementary Families,

We are looking forward to a great school year!  To keep current on district and site communication, please visit the district webpage at  www.jenksps.org  to connect to the following links:  West Elementary, Peachjar, Twitter, Facebook, and Let’s Talk.  We will continue to send important information via email through your child’s teacher and automated phone messages.  

 

Communicating with Staff During School Hours:  During school hours, please feel free to email or leave a voice message for your child’s teacher.  Our staff will do their best to respond within 24 hours.  If you need to communicate about a change in your child’s dismissal plan, PLEASE CALL YOUR BUILDING OFFICE PRIOR TO 3:00 P.M. to ensure the message is communicated in a timely manner to your child’s teacher.  

 

Back to School Night- This is an important time for your child's teacher to share information about teaching and learning, expectations and procedures, and answer questions.  If possible, please make childcare arrangements.  See schedule below:

School Arrival/Dismissal-Please take turns, follow the traffic guidelines (including staging cones), and be patient.   Please be aware that there are NO LEFT TURNS during arrival and dismissal.  If you arrive late (after 8:15 a.m. for PK or after 8:50 a.m. K-4), please park and walk your child in to the office to get a tardy pass.  Bus ovals are closed from 8:20-8:50 a.m. and from 3:15-3:45 p.m.  Starting school on time is essential for giving your child every advantage to succeed.  Following dismissal, students who have not been picked up within 15 minutes will be escorted to the following locations and families will incur a drop in fee.

Bus Transportation-We encourage families to utilize our bus services available for all kindergarten-fourth grade students.  KIndergarten-second grade students ride a separate fleet of buses than our third and fourth grade students.  Visit our website www.jenksps.org under the transportation tab for details.  Transportation can reached at 918-299-4415 ext. 5700.

 

Absences (ext. 5618 or email Joanne.trinidad@jenksps.org)-Please notify before 10:00 a.m. If you have not notified Joanne Trinidad by 10:00 a.m., you will receive an automated phone message if your child is absent.  As a reminder, if your KDG-4th grade child arrives after 9:30 a.m. or checks out of school before 3:00 p.m., he/she will be counted absent for a half day.  If your PK child arrives after 8:45 a.m. or checks out prior to 2:30 p.m., he/she will be counted absent for a half day.  When possible, please schedule appointments outside the school day.  To protect instructional time, please refrain from checking your child out before 3:30 p.m.  

 

Lunch:  Cafeteria ext. 5612 (Building C) or ext. 6157 (Building F)-PK-2nd Grade students eat lunch in Building C and 3rd-4th grade students eat lunch in Building F Cafeteria.  Families are welcome to visit for lunch.  Please remember to check in with Lobbyguard in your building office before going to the cafeteria.  The breakfast price is $1.45 and lunch is $2.00.   For your convenience, we offer an automated system, www.myschoolbucks.com  Checks should be payable to JPS Child Nutrition.  (Include your child’s name and teacher’s name on the check.) Yellow lunch money envelopes and payment drop boxes are available in building offices.

 

Free and/or Reduced Lunch:  Please make sure you turn in these forms ASAP.  They will be available in Building offices, Meet the Teacher and Back to School Night meetings.  Call Betty Hix at 299-4415 ext. 5612 for more information.  (Strictly confidential)

 

Student Insurance:  Information can be found in enrollment packets.

 

Lobbyguard:  All visitors must check in with Lobbyguard in building offices.  (Must have driver’s license.)  After the school day has begun, forgotten books, lunch, homework, etc. will be delivered to classrooms by office personnel as not to interrupt classroom instruction.

 

PTAG-We invite you to get involved in our very active Parent Teacher Action Group (PTAG).  PTAG has a private Facebook (FB) page to keep you in the loop about opportunities to volunteer and events in which you will want to participate. Search for JWE PTAG and request membership.  PTAG email blasts are sent out through teacher emails on Mondays.
