New Employees

It is a requirement that each new employee report to the Insurance Office to complete the appropriate paperwork whether or not you choose to take insurance. To be eligible for all benefits, enrollment must be within the first 30 days of board hire date. Early enrollment helps ensure that premiums are deducted from you paycheck in a timely manner. Many departments coordinate with their new employees to assist with the scheduling process, but it is to your advantage to ensure that you are enrolled early.

  • What should I do to enroll? Call the Insurance Office at 299-4415 extension 2313 or 2379 to schedule an appointment within the first week of hire. You will want to verify the time of your enrollment with your supervisor. The enrollment appointment lasts approximately one hour. You are encouraged to pick up a Benefits booklet from the Insurance Office to review prior to the enrollment appointment. This will allow you to be better prepared to make informed choices. Insurance plan decisions are made and forms are turned in during the enrollment appointment.
  • May my spouse attend the enrollment meeting? Spouses are welcome. Space is limited; please inform the insurance office when scheduling your appointment.
  • What happens if I fail to enroll in the insurance plans within the first 30 days of hire? You lose the opportunity to enroll yourself and family members in the health, dental, vision and life plans until the next annual open enrollment period (Option Period/Open Enrollment will take place in the Fall with a January 1 effective date).
  • When will my coverage become effective? All insurance benefits become effective the first day of the month following your board hire date or the first day of work, whichever is later. Remember, you must enroll within 30 days of board hire date. Flexible benefits (Section 125) become effective the first day of the month following your board hire date.
  • What do I need to bring to the enrollment meeting? Benefits booklet; Names, dates of birth, and social security numbers of family members to be insured; Physician(s) of choice, if selecting an HMO; Names, addresses, dates of birth and social security numbers of persons to be named as beneficiaries. Please provide copies of documents listed, as these will be kept in the employees insurance file (No originals).
