Dana Stokes, Mathematics Teacher & Gifted Coordinator

Mrs. Stokes teaches pre-algebra to seventh and eighth grade students. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Northern Iowa in 1987. She is Certified in Elementary Education grades K-9 and Special Education grades K-9. She also holds an Oklahoma Endorsement in Intermediate Mathematics and Mathematics for grades 7-8 for high school credit and an Oklahoma Endorsement in Middle School Science. In addition to her formal education, Mrs. Stokes has attended a wide variety of professional training such as curriculum development, differentiation training and technology. Mrs. Stokes has also presented numerous workshops on mathematical thinking strategies and problem solving.

Mrs. Stokes was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Before moving to Oklahoma in the fall of 1990, Mrs. Stokes taught for the Cedar Falls, Iowa Public Schools for four years, teaching grades first and fourth. In 1991, Mrs. Stokes was hired to teach at Monte Cassino and taught there for 2 years, grades four and six. In 1993, Mrs. Stokes joined the staff of Jenks Public Schools. She has taught in gifted classrooms in 4th grade and 5th grade as well as co-teaching teams. Mrs. Stokes has served on various district committees such as District Finance and Math textbook adoption. She has served as fifth grade chair and as a mentor to new teachers. Mrs. Stokes was named Jenks East Intermediate School Teacher of the Year in 2000-2001.

Mrs. Stokes believes in producing what she likes to call “can do kids”, kids that are independent learners and thinkers. To achieve this she provides a classroom environment where kids feel safe. She is clear on expected behaviors and outcomes. She has high expectations of her students and a belief that they can achieve. She believes that a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and skills leads to a solid foundation for further mathematical studies. Her lifelong love of learning is evident in her daily teaching, her love of teaching is evident in her rapport with her students.

When she is not busy teaching, Mrs. Stokes is also the Gifted Coordinator for Jenks Public Schools as we as the Middle School GIfted Coordinator.
