American Mathematics Competition Many Jenks Middle School students compete in math contests. The American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8) was administered this past November to over 250,000 students from over 3,500 schools across the nation. The purpose of the examination was to increase interest in mathematics and to develop problem solving ability through a friendly competition. The questions ranged in difficulty from easy to very difficult in order to appeal to a broad range of students. Questions on the AMC 8 covered material normally associated with the seventh and eighth grade mathematics curriculum including (but not limited to) such topics as integers, fractions, decimals, percents, ratio and proportions, number theory, informal geometry, perimeter, area, volume, probability, statistics, and logical reasoning. The test is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple-choice examination with no penalty for guessing. Students also compete each February in the Oklahoma Math League. Over 250 schools from across the state competed last year. The Oklahoma Math League contest is 40-question examination, with a 30-minute time limit. Awards are given to the highest scoring student in both the 7th and 8th grade contests. In addition, the highest ranked schools in the state receive recognition. |

MATHCOUNTS MATHCOUNTS® is a national Middle School program that encourages students to increase their math skills through learning and competition. Students meet weekly (Thursday after school) for practice. The practice session includes correcting weekly assignments, a lesson (often things that are not taught in the regular classroom), and a competition to improve the students' speed and accuracy. See Jenks Middle School's MATHCOUNTS web page. |

A.B.L.E. This is an inter-school competition between area seventh, eighth and ninth graders. It is a timed, "trivial pursuit" competition. The competitions are right after school on Wednesdays. Some competitions are held on our campus and there is some travel to area Tulsa schools including Union, Broken Arrow and Claremore. In addition to the competitions, there is a practice day right after school. It combines the skills of quick response with a buzzer, strategy, and a vast treasure trove of trivia. |

After School Drama Production The Jenks Middle School Drama Department is active in providing theatrical experience for the middle school student. Plays and musicals are presented in both the Fall and Spring semesters with auditions open to all students. The rehearsals take place after school with performances in the evenings. The productions offer the student an excellent opportunity to have direct experience in acting, set design and construction, backstage crew work, and lighting/sound design.
