Instructional Initiative Pilot for Freshman Academy
Jenks Public School’s aim is to provide all students with the tools and environment that will allow them to be successful in the 21st century. To facilitate this learning domain, JPS’s new Director of Instructional Technology, Paul Goodenough is working with technology and curriculum experts from across the district to implement an instructional initiative to increase the students opportunities to become more creative, collaborative, to increase critical thinking skills, and to improve communication skills to become better digital citizens. This instructional initiative will start with a pilot at the Freshman Academy in the spring of 2014. Each student and teacher will receive a Google Chromebook to use throughout the semester. Canvas by Instructure has been selected for the Learning Management System (LMS) to help facilitate the goals of the pilot and Google Apps for Education will be used as the production suite. Extensive professional development will be given to the teachers before the start of the semester and instructional coaches will be available throughout the pilot. Parent meetings are scheduled for parents of students involved in the pilot.
Congratulations to Sara Estep! The Freshman Academy Teacher of the Year!
The Jenks Freshman Academy is on the Central Campus and houses only those students in the 9th grade. Although located on the high school campus, it is designed to acclimate its 800 students to the rigors and responsibilities of high school before they enter that environment.
Classes at the Freshman Academy are in session from 7:50 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students should be dropped off and picked up at the F Street (north) lot. Buses drop off and pick up at the bus oval on B Street.
