Reading Suggestions

Students are encouraged to read items that meet their needs, interests, maturity levels, and reading abilities.  Book award lists are an excellent place to locate ideas for reading material.  Links to a few of the major children's book awards are listed below.      

 

Newbery Medal Winner and Honor Books:

*Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to "the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children."

Sequoyah Book Awards:

*A children's choice state book award that is annually awarded by the Oklahoma Library Association.

Many students also enjoy reading books on the intermediate and children's Sequoyah masterlists so they can vote for the winner of the state book award.

*Awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to "the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published by an American publisher in the United States in English."

Pura Belpre“ Medal Winner and Honor Books:
