Deanna Higgins, Music Educator
My husband Brent and I moved from Indianapolis to Tulsa in 2006. We raised our 3 children in the Indianapolis area where I taught music for 12 years. I led the middle school choir in Sapulpa for a year, and in 2007 I was thrilled to become part of the Jenks staff.
I teach all of the 1st grade classes and three 2nd grade general music classes. We are on a three day rotation and are pleased to share a music program with parents annually during the school day. My philosophy focuses on the findings of brain research - the idea that children learn by doing: singing with movement, poems with body percussion and singing games involving instruments. It is my goal to teach students musical concepts as we experience the delight music can bring.
My philosophy of music education could be categorized as Orff Schulwerk.
