HAPPY 2012!

If you are a new volunteer to the Jenks District, you need orientation and sign a contract.  ALL volunteers need to sign a contract each year.  We now have the Orientation and Contracts on the website.  (The orientation video will be on the site soon.)  We are now recording hours on this site as well.  Go to jenksps.org, click onto the District label at your left, and click onto Volunteer Program.  At this time, you will see volunteer opportunities.  Contact your site coordinator at the site you'd like to volunteer at for their volunteer opportunities.  To reach the online forms, you will "hover" over the Volunteer Program label and click onto the online forms, or on the Recording Hours label if you are recording hours.  For recording of hours, please just follow the instructions provided.  Our website is in progress and will be updated as the year goes on.  Please contact Kathy for any questions about the site.  The Volunteer Program is now on Facebook!  Check it out!

The Jenks Volunteer Program is an important part of citizenship.  Since its inception in 1986, the program has grown steadily with volunteers making a difference in all aspects of the school district.  Over 2,000 JPS volunteers consistently donate more than 100,000 hours of service to the students and staff in our school system.  The volunteer program relies heavily on not only parental involvement, but grandparents, retirees, and alumni as well.  When you see these volunteers at your site, whether they are shelving books, helping in the lunchroom, tutoring students, or working in the office and classrooms, they are helping make an impact on all levels of student life at Jenks.  Thank you to those that are participating in the volunteer program at Jenks.  Everyone wins with volunteers!

Contact Information:  Kathy Guenther is the District Volunteer Coordinator.  She is located in the Sooner Building, Room 185, Ext. 2291, kathy.guenther@jenksps.org.  Kathy’s responsibilities include district volunteer training and volunteer requests, district volunteer hours, alumni volunteers, TCC Achieves volunteers, and career shadowing for graduating senior students.

Don’t forget to keep recording those hours!  Jenksps.org/District/Volunteer Program – hover over the Volunteer Program label on your left and choose “Record My Hours.”  Or, you may email your hours to Kathy and she will record them for you.  Thank you!

Career Shadowing Day:   At this time, the 21st annual Career Shadowing Day, organized by the Jenks Public Schools Volunteer Program, is scheduled for March 29th.  Graduating seniors will have the opportunity to experience his or her career choice by “shadowing” a business professional for one day.  Kathy Guenther is now beginning to contact companies for the Career Shadowing Day.  We need many companies and/or individuals to help fill the 350-plus students that participate in this program.  If you know of a company or individual that might be willing take a student(s) for one day, March 29th, please contact Kathy Guenther, District Volunteer Coordinator, at 918-299-4415, ext. 2291, or kathy.guenther@jenksps.org, and give her their information. She will contact them with more details.  Thank you!

  • Jenks Swim Club!   This is a HUGE Sectionals swim meet coming up!  If you have not yet seen the awesome Jenks aquatic center yet, this is your chance to not only see it, but to be a part of a great meet.  Emily Forbes, the volunteer coordinator for the Jenks Swim Club, needs a lot of volunteers for the upcoming Sectionals meet being held March1-4 at the Aquatic Center.  Many of the volunteer jobs do not require swim meet experience.  Emily has provided a note in the job descriptions if they DO require specific swimming experience.  Also, if you have lifeguard experience, contact Emily at her email and she will pass that along.  Here is a list of the jobs that they can use members of the community without swim experience:
    • Admissions table (collects admissions fees, admits swimmers & coaches)
    • Awards (assists with the awards ceremony during the finals sessions)
    • Concessions
    • Door monitor (makes sure only approved personnel or swimmers are entering into certain areas)
    • Safety Marshall (no medical experience required.  Monitors safety hazards such as slick floors)
    • Hospitality (answer questions, direct people within the aquatic center)
    • Outdoor pedestrian directions (direct people from the different lots on campus)
      • The Jenks Swim Club uses their website to post & sign-up for volunteer positions.  There are instructions to access their website so you can sign up directly on the site.  The login & password are specific to “community” volunteers.  This will allow Emily to identify which group (team, HS, Masters, community) the volunteer came from.  If you have any trouble with the site, or have questions about a volunteer position, please contact Emily at her email or phone listed below.  A few important notes:  On the list of the session times, it could be that they may have to adjust those times somewhat, but you will be sent an email about any changes in times.  If you volunteer, you will check in at the aquatic center and tell them you are a volunteer.  They will have your name and you will receive a meet t-shirt and will be directed to your volunteer position.  Emily will send a reminder email, and you are to let her know if you cannot make it, so she can find a replacement.  This is a great opportunity for service hours!  For those of you that are needing signatures for service hours please be sure to bring your sheets to sign.  Ask for Emily Forbes or George Villarreal to sign your sheets.  See below for the link to sign up,and the contact information for questions:
  • SPRING TESTING The need for many volunteers will be coming up during April and the first week of May.  Look for an upcoming email and/or phone calls later this semester.  One shift or one day will help tremendously.  Please respond back to your emails or phone calls to volunteer with a “Yes!”
