Little Free Library Celebrates Milestone at Jenks East Elementary
Little Free Library, a nonprofit organization that seeks to build community by inspiring a love a reading, selected Jenks East Elementary as the location for its 75,000th free book exchange.
East Elementary received a Little Free Library book exchange box in addition to an engraved post, 150 free children’s books, and giveaway items for students such as bookmarks and buttons. Little Free Library will also send a box of books to East Elementary every month for one year. The school earned this gift by applying to Little Free Library’s Impact Library Program, which shares no-cost book exchanges where they can make a difference in book access and reading motivation.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to further develop their love of reading, and to share that passion and knowledge with their classmates,” remarked Ryan Glaze, Site Principal at East Elementary. “We feel so fortunate to be selected by Little Free Library for this occasion. At Jenks Public Schools, we want to create as many unique learning opportunities for our students as we possibly can, and having a Little Free Library on our campus is one more way for our kids to feel connected and for them to be inspired.”
A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share. Little Free Library has book-sharing boxes in 87 countries around the world, and tens of millions of books are exchanged annually at Little Free Library locations.
"We are so pleased to share the world's 75,000th Little Free Library with Jenks East Elementary,” said Todd Bol, Executive Director of Little Free Library. “Schools and educators play a vital role in nurturing a love of reading in our youth, and we're delighted to help ignite that love. We believe everyone has a right to read."
