JPS officials join representatives from LDKerns Contractors, KSQ Design, Cyntergy, and Wallace Engineering to break ground on the new Central Campus Dining Hall which will be completed for the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.

A groundbreaking ceremony signaled the start of construction for the new Central Campus Dining Hall, a year-long project for Jenks Public Schools, LDKerns Contractors, and architects from KSQ Design.

Scheduled for completion in the summer of 2017, the 35,000 square-foot facility is designed to accommodate up to 1,300 students as well as new, state-of-the-art kitchen equipment and appliances. The building will feature an open, inviting floor plan while incorporating natural light, various seating options, and a cantilever entrance.

“A new Dining Hall on our Central Campus is a necessity in order to meet the daily needs of our students and to make sure our facilities continue to keep up with our growing enrollment,” said Jeff Beyer, Jenks Public Schools Executive Director of Construction and Community Services. “With the help and expertise of the contractors at LD Kerns and the architects at KSQ Design, I’m confident this new building will provide an exceptional dining experience for our students.”

In addition to creating additional space for students, the Central Campus Dining Hall will be used as a banquet room and gathering space for Jenks High School clubs and activities, and community events. For the upcoming 2016-17 school year, students will dine at the Trojan Activity Center which was converted into a useful, multi-functional space with an operational kitchen and several serving lines.

“The new Central Campus Dining Hall will provide Jenks with smoother operations, wayfinding, and facility management, while also providing ample space and cost-saving features such as LED lighting,” said KSQ Design Managing Principal, David Short. “It's been a pleasure working with Jenks and our project partners and consultants to create a modern space for Jenks' growing student population and dedicated staff."

Established in 1988, KSQ Design is a full-service firm providing architecture, engineering, and interior design services to clients in the K12, higher education, healthcare, senior living, and multi-family market sectors. KSQ Design has previously worked for the District, including the creation of the AIA award-winning Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center.

LD Kerns Contractors, a construction management and general contracting firm located in Jenks, has partnered with Jenks Public Schools on a variety of projects including the Early Childhood Center, the preservation of Jenks’ historic Rock Gym, and the expansion of the East Elementary parking lot.

“The new Dining Hall is one of the most exciting and challenging projects on Jenks’ Central Campus and we are happy to accept the challenge,” stated Bret Kaltenbach, LD Kerns General Superintendent for the Dining Hall. “This facility will be a great addition to Jenks High School and the entire Jenks community.”
