Emergency Procedure Guide

The District’s emergency plan promotes safety awareness and communicates the District’s commitment to the safety of students, staff and guests.

An attitude of "it can't happen here" has created a culture of emergency planning in the Jenks School District.

Since emergencies will occur, pre-planning is necessary. An urgent need for rapid decisions, shortage of time, and lack of resources and trained personnel can lead to chaos during an emergency. Time and circumstances in an emergency mean that normal channels of authority and communication cannot be relied upon to function routinely.

The stress of the situation can lead to poor judgment resulting in severe losses.  An emergency plan specifies procedures for handling sudden or unexpected situations. The objective is to be prepared to do the following.

  • Prevent fatalities and injuries
  • Reduce damage to buildings, inventory, and equipment
  • Protect the environment and the community
  • Accelerate the resumption of normal school and community operations

Development of the District’s plan began with a vulnerability assessment.  From this analysis and area emergency response organization input, appropriate emergency procedures have been, and continue to be, established.

The District’s emergency plans include:

  • Possible emergencies, consequences, required actions, written procedures, and the resources available.
  • Detailed lists of personnel including their home telephone numbers, their duties and responsibilities.
  • Floor plans.
  • Large scale maps showing evacuation routes and service conduits (such as gas and water lines).

The District’s Emergency Procedure Guide is revised when shortcomings have become known, and is reviewed annually by representatives of the Jenks Fire Department, Tulsa Fire Department, Jenks Police Department, Jenks Campus Police Department, Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, EMSA, Tulsa Area Life Flight, Tulsa City/County Health Department, Tulsa Area Department of Emergency Management, Jenks Schools’ School Emergency Response Team, American Red Cross and Jenks Superintendent of Schools.
