Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Teams

Jenks Public Schools

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) Teams

On occasion we are presented with situations in our schools in which our students or patrons may experience “crisis”. In these occurrences, a person in crisis will often exhibit threatening or harmful behavior towards themselves or others. When these situations do arise, Jenks Public Schools has always strived to support the person in crisis by de-escalating the situation, but most importantly keeping everyone safe! Through this commitment to safety, we have trained, supported, and implemented CPI teams at each of our student sites.

CPI — Educating, Empowering, and Enriching
CPI is an international training organization committed to best practices and safe behavior management methods that focus on prevention. Through a variety of specialized offerings and innovative resources, CPI educates and empowers professionals to create safe and respectful work environments. This enables professionals to enrich not only their own lives, but also the lives of the individuals they serve.

The cornerstone of CPI is the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® program, which is considered the worldwide standard for crisis prevention and intervention training. With a core philosophy of providing for the Care, Welfare, Safety, and SecuritySM of everyone involved in a crisis situation, the program’s proven strategies give human service providers and educators the skills to safely and effectively respond to anxious, hostile, or violent behavior while balancing the responsibilities of care.

When responding to someone who may be experiencing crisis, our CPI teams utilize their training and experience to mitigate and de-escalate their emotions and behavior. They establish an open line of communication, and always consider and address the safety of those involved. These teams are invaluable in helping in moments of crisis, and maintaining the safety of our students, staff, and visitors in these challenging situations.
