The aim of Jenks West Elementary, as an International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme, is to develop inquiring, lifelong learners through integrated learning experiences and authentic assessments. About our school…
Welcome to West Elementary! Students who reside on the west side of the Arkansas River in the Jenks School District attend West Elementary. Our campus configuration is comprised of four classroom buildings and Grace Living Center, our intergenerational, multi-age pre-kindergarten and kindergarten program located at 711 North 5th Street in Jenks. Building B houses our developmental three year old class and pre-kindergarten classes. After pre-kindergarten, students are assigned to Building A or D and remain in the same building for kindergarten, first and second grades. Building F is located across the street from the primary campus and houses third and fourth grades.
West Elementary staff share a strong commitment to best practice instruction and desire to develop students who are critical, creative thinkers and problem solvers. West Elementary is as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School Primary Years Program (PYP). It’s an exciting continuous improvement opportunity for our staff, students, and families as we deepen our teaching with inquiry based instruction, grow in integrated concept-based teaching using IB’s organizational framework of themes, extend possibilities for student leadership within our school community and in the larger community, connect with students globally, and continue our focus on the “Attitudes of Excellence” across all grade levels.
Your child’s teacher will be communicating monthly through email newsletters. (Printed copies will be provided upon request.) Principals also send out monthly communication to keep you updated about events/information. Thursday Folders are sent home weekly and include both site and district information. We also periodically use our phone messaging system. Please bookmark our webpage if you have not already done so. The WE webpage is a great way to keep current on what is happening at our school. Our PTAG has a private Facebook (FB) page to keep you in the loop about opportunities to volunteer and events in which you will want to participate. Search for JWE PTAG and request membership. Our Parent Involvement….
West Elementary values our family and community partnerships. We extend many opportunities for families and members of the community to be involved in our school. We have a very active Parent Teacher Action Group (PTAG) who initiate projects, fundraisers, and support for volunteer needs in our school that occur throughout the school year. WE PTAG has a private Facebook (FB) page to keep you in the loop about opportunities to volunteer and events in which you will want to participate. Search for JWE PTAG and request membership. JPS also has a district FB page that we invite you to join. JPS Facebook Page We also have Dynamic Dads a monthly opportunity to encourage male role models in our classrooms. Classroom teachers welcome volunteers to be involved in classrooms on a daily, weekly, and/or as needed basis.
