Who is Mrs. Brown?
I am a teacher of French and Spanish. I am the World Languages department head. I have been at Jenks High School for 13 years! I have loved every year. I learned French at OSU and while working in a restaurant in Belgium. After learning how much happiness teaching others gives me, I went to UCO at night to obtain my teaching certificate. While attending night classes I picked up Spanish courses as well. My first teaching job was indeed in Spanish at an inner city, predominately Spanish speaking school called Harmon High School in Kansas City, Kansas. I absolutely loved that job and the students. I studied with KU and went to college courses through KU in Barcelona, Spain. I thought nothing could take me away from Kansas City, but love can do amazing things. I married my husband who brought me to Tulsa. I was so fortunate to get a job at Jenks where in my first position I taught French and Spanish at the Freshman Academy. I moved to the high school in 2002. I love the administration and staff at Jenks High School and I cease to be amazed at the caliber of students I have the pleasure of teaching. La vie est belle!
My family includes my husband Steve and my two sons, John and Ben. My sons are both energetic and clever. They give me lots of material for weekend story time in class. I like to read 2 novels per summer. I enjoy rowing on the Arkansas river when there is water! I also enjoy running and anything outdoors that does not involve heights.
Being a parent has brought a whole new perspective to my role as a teacher. I try verbalize more often with parents and students when they have done a great job at a task. I also like to highlight my students' talents before the class and build their self-confidence. I strive to create a classroom environment where all students feel at ease and are willing to take risks. I want this to be an amazing year for your child and I ask that you please contact me anytime to let me know how I can better your child's learning experience.
