Mark Rubey's Web page

This is my fifth year teaching at Jenks Middle School.  I have taught 7th grade PreAlgebra each year. This year I also teach one class for 8th grade Middle School Algebra.  I'm very fortunate to teach at Jenks.  I'm a Jenks Lifer(Class of 2001) and am truly proud of this school district from when I was here up to now and what the future holds.  Students should feel privileged to be at Jenks to experience many different educational opportunities and extracurricular activities that many other school districts do not have.  I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2006(Go Pokes!!).  I also have my Masters in Education for School Counseling from Northeastern State University.  One of the main reasons I chose teaching as a profession is because of my role model, my mother Kathy Rubey who has taught at Jenks Public Schools for over 40 years.  I have seen the impact she has had on many peoples' lives and I wish to make the same positive impact on your child.  I am also inspired everyday by wife, Ashley, who is an amazing kindergarten teacher at Jenks West Elementary.

My grade setup is as follows:  60% will be from Tests, 30% will be from classwork and homework quizzes, and 10% will be from Semester Finals.

I will assign homework out of the textbook throughout the year.  I do not have a set schedule of assigning it.  There could be one week that has one assignment, another week with two or a week with no homework.  I will NOT take up homework for a grade.  Instead we will have homework quizzes(mentioned earlier in grade setup) that will include questions directly from the homework.  My reasoning for not grading homework is some kids will cheat, some parents will basically do the homework for them, or they just don't do it.  All three of those instances do not benefit students.  Now there are kids who will do their own and turn it in every time but I think for many kids it doesn't truly represent their knowledge of the material.  Now this does not mean I don't want your kids to do homework.  I think many kids need to do the homework for practice.  I do give odd numbered problems where the answers are in the back of the book for the student to check his or her work. Students who do the homework can turn it in to me on Homework Quiz days and receive 5 bonus points on the quiz.

If you ever have a question or concern do not hesitate to e-mail me and I will respond as quick as I can. mark.rubey@jenksps.org

Also, I am available before school and would love to help your child if he or she is in need. Just let me know and I can give them a pass the day before to come in the building early.
